Stand Up For The Esther Cannizzo Junior Golf Foundation
2014 marks the third year in a row the The Stand Up Guys have supported the Esther Cannizzo Junior Golf Foundation to help under privileged kids play the game the love. The “Esther” is designed to help junior golfers in Esther’s home town of Syracuse, NY and Atlanta, Ga. The junior golfers that receive grants will be those recommended by golf professionals, guidance counselors, and others in the golf community. Not only will these junior golfers gain skills, but also the values that represent the spirit of Esther. It is through this Foundation, Esther will be honored through the community and beyond and her name will never be forgotten.
In the beginning of 2008, Esther was diagnosed with lung cancer and it was unclear if Esther would ever play golf again. In the near future it was confirmed that she would not. Treatment began to fail and her children wanted to remember her in the best way possible. Donation started flowing in and they were able to honor their mother the best way they knew how.
The Stand Up Guys were introduced to the foundation through a customer we had years ago. She asked if we played golf and we love the game so we sat down with her and got all the details about what we could do. Playing golf and helping the community seems like a great combination and the first year we decided to sponsor a hole. Basically we donated money and the 10th hole had our name and logo showing recognition. The following year we gathered a team and sponsored a hole, and had a blast! Lunch, dinner, silent auction, pros and prizes surrounded us and we loved every minute of it. From that point on, we knew we were going to continue to help out as much as we could.
