Getting Rid of an Old Television
So you finally got the new flat screen you wanted and now are looking to get rid of your old television. Dumping your old television set at your local landfill or transfer station is NOT the safest way to dispose of you T.V. set.
Believe it or not, there are actually harmful materials in T.V. sets, such as toxic lead. In the projection, circuit boards and even the screen contain toxic materials. Exposure to large amounts of these materials can be very hazardous to your health.
If you decide not to DIY, making sure the guys dispose of you television correctly is important. There are many recycling centers in the Metro Atlanta area, but they do not take full T.V.’s. They will take the wires, circuit boards and the guts of it but not the outer surface or the glass. Stand Up Guys will do all of that for you. We dissect the televisions and pull apart what can be recycled and what can be dumped. That’s why sometimes getting rid of it yourself can be difficult.
Usually people getting rid of a T.V. have other items with them that they are discarding as well. So, the easiest way to get rid of it is to throw it into the junk pile already assembled. The customers do not have time to take apart their T.V. set, so they depend on us to take care of everything for them.
Although many of the new television sets do not contain many hazardous materials, it is still best to throw it away properly when the time comes. Because you never know what could happen once you dump it off. Properly dispose of it and you do not have to worry anymore!
