Ancient Egyptian art

Among the many artifacts on display at the North Carolina Museum of Art is a black-topped ceramic jar handmade some 6,000 years ago. This jar may have been used to store food in a house.

The museum’s collection includes artifacts from ancient Egypt, the Greek and Roman eras, and Villanovan culture. The oldest artifact in the museum’s collection is a black-topped ceramic jar, which dates back to around 6,000 years ago.

NCMA’s collection of ancient Egyptian art includes works from the predynastic, pharaonic, and Roman periods. It also contains artifacts from the Greek Bronze Age and Villanovan culture.

African art

Northern European art

Among the works of art in the North Carolina Museum of Art’s collection are the works of some of the greatest European and American artists. Works of art range from paintings to sculpture and include sculptures, ancient Egyptian artifacts, and American art. The museum also has a collection of Jewish art, including ceremonial objects and works from the Ashkenazic, Sephardic, and Oriental traditions of Judaism.

Among the most important works in the museum’s collection are the paintings A Meat Stall with Holy Family Giving Alms by Pieter Aertsen and Lucas Cranach the Elder’s Madonna and Child in Landscape. In addition, the museum has works of art by other famous European artists, such as Titian, Raphael, and Jan Steen. The museum also has a large collection of contemporary works, including works by Franz Kline and Alberto Giacometti.

17th-century Dutch and Flemish art

Throughout the 17th century, Dutch and Flemish artists painted small portraits and self-portraits as an artistic study. This type of work often served as calling cards. These works were also used to display the wealth of the original owner. In many cases, the portraits were painted by noted artists.

A new exhibition, Small Treasures, at the North Carolina Museum of Art (NCMA) in Raleigh, NC, highlights the history of small-scale works by Dutch and Flemish painters. The works will be on view from October 11, 2014 through January 4, 2015.

The small works in this exhibition are grouped by the genre of figure painting. The catalogue includes full-size reproductions of each painting and a biography of the artist.
