Trails are connected to greenways
Marcella Vivrette Smith Park is a new greenspace that opened in November 2014. Located near Wilson Pike and Split Log Road, it’s a 400-acre greenspace that features six miles of hiking trails. The park also boasts an antebellum mansion that is available for weddings and special events.
Smith Park includes rolling trails, sports fields, and picnic shelters. It also includes trails that are connected to greenways within the surrounding neighborhoods. The park also has connections to WSM Tower Park and the Brentwood Greenway. A great post!
Mansion is a historic landmark
Marcella Vivrette Smith Park opened in 2014 and has a rich history. The mansion is the home of James Hazard Wilson II and Emeline Wilson, who settled here in the early 1800s. The Wilsons grew to be wealthy businessmen, acquiring several steamboat lines on the Mississippi River. By the mid 1800s, they were among the wealthiest men in Tennessee.
The mansion is located on the property where the Ravenwood mansion was built. In 1825, James Hazard Wilson II purchased it. The mansion became famous for housing Sam Houston, who was known as “the Raven.” In 2010, the city of Brentwood purchased the mansion and eighty acres of land from the Smith family. In the fall of 2014, the mansion opened to the public and recently expanded its trails.
It can be rented as an event space
The Marcella Vivrette Smith Park in Brentwood is a 400-acre greenspace and can be rented for a wedding or other event. Guests can hike and bike along the park’s trails, and enjoy live music and a magic show. For groups, the park’s pavilion can host up to 50 guests.
This historic park was originally owned by James and Emeline Wilson. It was named after Sam Houston, a legendary cowboy, who was known as “the Raven.” Through the years, it has been owned by various individuals, including Reese and Marcella Vivrette Smith.
